hot people read: A man called ove

A few years ago I was having lunch with friends and we were talking about how an acquaintance of ours stopped seeing a guy because he didn’t read. We were all laughing recounting the scenario, myself a little less hard than my friends. I sheepishly admitted that I did not make time for reading myself and instead spent a lot of time watching tv or on social media when I was not working. My friends were incredulous that I did not have a current read or even a favorite book that I had picked up in the past few months. I still remember the red hot embarrassment as my friends asked ‘You don’t read?’ It was at that moment that I decided to make a change. I had recently graduated from business school for my masters and unfortunately my years at college had not lent much time or interest to reading much of anything. Most of the reading I had done were IRS tax codes or accounting principles (sexy, I know) and by the time I finished those I could not be bothered with anything else. This encounter was the jump start of my post grad reading journey.

My hope is to save you from the same embarrassment I experienced with my friends. Trust me, if you are in the company of beautiful, intelligent, successful people you can guarantee those people are well read and have something that they are currently reading. In an age where we are all about 30 second sound bites and 300 character quotes it is imperative that we all pick up a book and learn things for ourselves. It will make you well informed and more attractive as well. Every hot person that I have ever met reads books and that is just a 100% fact that I have canvassed firsthand. See below for Jacob Elordi reading.

(I mean the facts speak for themselves).

So let’s get you out of that reading slump by starting with something that will bump your emotional intelligence and is sure to impress at the next dinner party. Our current Hot People Read is: A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. This book is about a grumpy old Swedish man named Ove. From his strict policing of his neighbors and jabbing comments, it’s easy to characterize Ove as a bitter man. Through interactions with his neighbors and flashbacks from his past you begin to understand Ove and his actions more and more.  A Man Called Ove is one of the books that helped me get back into reading. I laughed, cried, and was able to finish it rather easily. The story did not drag out and kept my interest from chapter to chapter. This story is all about the power of empathy and how the small actions of one individual can have a profound impact on the lives of many. So if you don’t have a ‘current read’ here’s the perfect one to get you started. Happy reading! May you be hotter than ever and prosper!
